Product formulations for industrial processes are typically developed at laboratory scale. However, the mixing conditions are not easily mimicked in the laboratory. A rotational device is proposed in this study as a fast laboratory-scale formulation development, which enables mimicking the mixing conditions in the industrial process. The geometrical configurations of the rotational device are from rheometry devices (plate-plate and cone-plate). The main advantages of this method are the small amounts of raw materials and shorter testing times. This methodology is applied to an industrial case study, the reaction injection molding (RIM) process. The mixing length scales evolution in the rotational rheometer were matched to those in RIM machines. The main novelty of this study is the introduction of a protocol that bridges the processing conditions at laboratory using small amounts of raw materials to high throughput continuous flow reactors. 相似文献

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) application in light-harvesting processes is hindered by its wide band gap. Strategies such as morphology shifts from nanoparticles to nanotubes and doping of fabricated nanostructures are widely used to address this issue. Combining both approaches, this work successfully synthesizes, for the first time, aluminium-doped TiO2 nanotubes via a single-step anodization method at three distinct potentials (20, 40 and 60 V). SEM images revealed the successful formation of remarkably thin layers of TiO2 nanotubes produced at 40 and 60 V. X-ray diffractograms and Raman spectra suggest the successful insertion of aluminium into the anatase lattice. Diffuse reflectance confirmed the doping process through a marked effect on the absorbance of visible light for the higher voltages, as well as through a reduction in the optical band gap. For utilization purposes, the photoelectrochemical performance of 40 V Al–TiO2 was able to deliver a comparable response to that of a compact TiO2 layer of the same thickness. The current density developed by the 60 V sample was increased by 120% in comparison to the undoped material, despite having an absorbance much lower than that of the latter. Overall, synthesizing an Al-doped TiO2 nanotubular structure has proven to be a great strategy in the development of materials for application in advanced light-harvesting electrodes. 相似文献

Selective targeting of DNA by means of fluorescent labeling has become a mainstay in the life sciences. While genetic engineering serves as a powerful technique and allows the visualization of nucleic acid by using DNA-targeting fluorescent fusion proteins in a cell-type- and subcellular-specific manner, it relies on the introduction of foreign genes. On the other hand, DNA-binding small fluorescent molecules can be used without genetic engineering, but they are not spatially restricted. Herein, we report a photocaged version of the DNA dye Hoechst33342 (pcHoechst), which can be uncaged by using UV to blue light for the selective staining of chromosomal DNA in subnuclear regions of live cells. Expanding its application to a vertebrate model organism, we demonstrate uncaging in epithelial cells and short-term cell tracking in vivo in zebrafish. We envision pcHoechst as a valuable tool for targeting and interrogating DNA with precise spatiotemporal resolution in living cells and wild-type organisms. 相似文献

As global air pollution becomes increasingly severe,various types of fibrous filters have been devel-oped to improve air filter performance.However,fibrous filters have limitations such as high packing density that generally causes high-pressure drop and ultimately deterioration in the filtration effi-ciency.High-pressure particulate matter precipitators are limited in terms of scope for commercialization because they require high voltage supplies and ozone generators.In this study,we develop fibrous fil-ters with enhanced durability and improved performance using metallized microfibers decorated with metal-organic-framework(MOF)nanocrystals.Not only does the efficiency of the developed filters remain at or above 97%for 0.50-1.5 μm PMs but the durability also significantly increases.In addi-tion,using the water purification ability of the MOF,we explore the dye degradation effect of the hybrid microfibers by immersing them into Rhodamine B aqueous solution.In such an experiment the Rho-damine B aqueous solution is completely purified by the presence of the hybrid microfibers under the UV irradiation. 相似文献

The repair of bone fractures is a clinical challenge for patients with impaired healing, such as osteoporosis. Currently, different strategies have been developed to design new biomaterials, enhancing their interactions with biological systems and conducting the cellular behavior in the desired direction to help fracture healing. In the present work, hydroxyapatite-graphene oxide (HA-GO) nanocomposites were produced and the morphological and physicochemical influences of the addition of 0.5 wt%, 1.0 wt% and 1.5 wt% of GO to HA were observed. FEG-SEM and TEM analyses of HA-GO nanocomposites showed HA nanoparticles adhered to the surface of the GO sheets, suggesting an effective method to form nanostructured graphene-based biomaterials. As confirmation, physicochemical analyses by Raman, FTIR and TGA demonstrated a strong affinity between HA and GO, according to the increase of concentration from 0.5 wt% to 1.5 wt% GO in the HA-GO nanocomposites. Also, in order to evaluate the HA-GO nanocomposites behavior under biological microenvironment, in vitro bioactivity and indirect cytotoxicity tests were performed. FEG-SEM analyses confirmed the positive results for the bioactivity properties of HA-GO nanocomposite and indirect cytotoxicity demonstrated that even with a decrease in the hDPSCs viability and proliferation, when increasing to 1.5 wt% of GO concentration, high level of cell viability was exhibited by HA-GO nanocomposites. These biological results suggested the 0.5 wt% HA-GO nanocomposite as a potential bioactive bone graft and a promising biomaterial for bone tissue regeneration, when compared to the pure HA. 相似文献

The present work provides an evaluation of the thermodynamic calculation, using the FactSage software, which allows the study of the interaction of a system of various oxides. It started with the examination of the crystalline phases present in the raw materials indicated by the FactSage and compared with the analysis by XRD. Subsequently, the crystalline phases and the amount of liquid phase predicted by the software at different firing temperatures were analyzed. These results were compared with experimental data and records from the literature. The FactSage showed consistent results, managing to indicate the presence of the main phases in the raw materials; however, the actual and predicted secondary phases did not always coincide. The type of phase in the firing was correctly indicated, tridymite (stable phase above 867 °C), mullite and liquid phase, but their quantity in relation to the firing temperature was quite different from the experimental data. 相似文献

通过金相试验方法测定42CrMo钢在890~930 ℃下保温10~240 min后的晶粒尺寸。结果表明,42CrMo钢在加热到试验温度890~930 ℃时已经完全奥氏体化,保温过程中的晶粒生长属于正常生长;加热温度对晶粒尺寸的影响较大,保温时间对晶粒尺寸的影响较小;随保温时间的延长晶粒生长缓慢,晶粒尺寸与保温时间满足指数小于1的函数关系。基于试验数据,通过线性回归得到晶粒长大的Beck模型参数,通过非线性回归得到Sellars和Anelli模型参数,3个模型的预测精度都较好,而Anelli模型的适用性要高于Beck模型和Sellars模型,故在预测42CrMo钢的奥氏体晶粒长大规律时宜使用Anelli模型。 相似文献

Sarcopenia is the loss of skeletal muscle mass and function with advancing age. It involves both complex genetic and modifiable risk factors, such as lack of exercise, malnutrition and reduced neurological drive. Cognitive decline refers to diminished or impaired mental and/or intellectual functioning. Contracting skeletal muscle is a major source of neurotrophic factors, including brain-derived neurotrophic factor, which regulate synapses in the brain. Furthermore, skeletal muscle activity has important immune and redox effects that modify brain function and reduce muscle catabolism. The identification of common risk factors and underlying mechanisms for sarcopenia and cognition may allow the development of targeted interventions that slow or reverse sarcopenia and also certain forms of cognitive decline. However, the links between cognition and skeletal muscle have not been elucidated fully. This review provides a critical appraisal of the literature on the relationship between skeletal muscle health and cognition. The literature suggests that sarcopenia and cognitive decline share pathophysiological pathways. Ageing plays a role in both skeletal muscle deterioration and cognitive decline. Furthermore, lifestyle risk factors, such as physical inactivity, poor diet and smoking, are common to both disorders, so their potential role in the muscle–brain relationship warrants investigation. 相似文献
